Elucidation of vascular lesions by nanomedicine and its medical application
Cancer, thrombosis, and diabetes have many affected people in Japan and overseas, and it is expected to elucidate the mechanisms of these diseases and develop diagnostic and therapeutic technologies using the concepts of the disease mechanisms. Since all diseases closely relate to vascular lesions, it is important to elucidate the structure and function of blood vessels involving in the progression of these diseases and the efficacy of the drugs against the diseases.
By imaging the living body and excised tissue of mouse models for cancer, thrombosis, and diabetes with high resolution and high sensitivity, we can go to the heart of problem for vascular lesions of these diseases and develop new diagnostic technologies and drugs.
We have used fluorescent nanoparticles with high brightness and nanoparticles with high X-ray absorption as probes and tracers to image with an optical microscope and µX-ray CT scanner, and have applied them to the medical applications of nanotechnology (nanomedicine). At International Center for Synchrotron Radiation Innovation Smart (SRIS), we would like to integrate these imaging technologies with synchrotron radiation imaging and develop them into new technologies as nanomedicine that promote the elucidation of vascular lesions and its medical applications.
